Strengthening Pakistan’s Furniture Industry: Collaboration for Growth and Innovation

Event details:

As per the directions of the Managing Director of Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC), a crucial meeting was held on November 13, 2024 (Wednesday), chaired by the Deputy Managing Director of PSIC. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the All Pakistan Furniture Makers Association (APFMA), to discuss the future of Pakistan’s furniture industry, export potential, and skill development programs.

Pakistan’s Furniture Export & Industry Growth

During the discussion, APFMA presented insights into Pakistan’s furniture exports, highlighting the industry's strengths and the challenges faced in the global market. With a rich heritage of craftsmanship and high-quality handmade furniture, Pakistan holds a unique position in the international market. However, to compete with global manufacturers, there is a growing need for enhanced skill development, modern techniques, and innovation-driven practices.

Time-Limited Training for Trainees & Master Trainers

One of the key points of discussion was the importance of training programs for both new trainees and master trainers. APFMA emphasized that time-limited courses would help develop skilled professionals who could meet international standards and increase the overall competitiveness of Pakistani furniture. These programs would focus on:
✔️ Modern furniture design techniques
✔️ Efficient use of materials & sustainability practices
✔️ Advanced machinery and production methods
✔️ Marketing & branding for global markets

Proposal for Furniture Export Development Institute

A significant proposal put forth by APFMA was the establishment of a Furniture Export Development Institute in Gujrat—a major hub for furniture manufacturing in Pakistan. The institute would serve as a center for:
🔹 Training and certification of furniture professionals
🔹 Research & development in modern furniture techniques
🔹 Collaboration with international furniture markets
🔹 Standardization and quality assurance for exports

PSIC’s Commitment to Industry Growth

The Deputy Managing Director of PSIC appreciated APFMA’s proposal and assured full cooperation and support from PSIC to make this vision a reality. By bridging the gap between industry, training institutions, and policymakers, PSIC aims to empower local manufacturers, increase furniture exports, and create sustainable employment opportunities.

Next Steps: A Roadmap for the Future

To ensure sustainable growth and competitiveness, APFMA committed to developing a detailed plan and roadmap outlining:
📌 Industry challenges and solutions
📌 Future innovation strategies
📌 Expansion of Pakistan’s furniture export footprint
📌 Skill enhancement & training infrastructure development

The collaboration between PSIC and APFMA marks a significant step towards industrial growth, skill development, and innovation in Pakistan’s furniture sector. With the right strategies and institutional support, Pakistan has the potential to emerge as a leading player in the global furniture market.

💡 Support local industries, invest in skills, and strengthen Pakistan’s exports! 🇵🇰
